Movie Review | Ao No Exorcist The Movie (2012)

The atmosphere in True Cross Academy is lively and boisterous in the days leading up to the grand festival held once every 11 years. During this time, Okumura Rin is entrusted with the responsibility of suppressing the berserk Phantom Train. In the midst of his mission, he meets a devil whose appearance is that of a young boy.

VISUALS:

As with the original anime, the movie is also well made to the details. (Though I might something wrong with Yukio in the first scene, but it might be my imagination). The art used in this movie is almost if not slightly better than the original. Great job! ( ^^)人(^^ )

Audio/BGM/OST:

I’m really biased when it comes to anime movies and such. I really like how they make you feel like singing every single time, though you don’t even know the lyrics. “Reversi” by Uverworld (my favorite Japanese band) made me happy that I watched this movie. And even if it isn’t them who sung that credit song, the interlude songs in between scenes (especially, the sad ones) almost made me cry. THIS IS WHY I LOVE ANIME! Script:

To be honest, there are lots of anime that has movies and ovas that never made a good impression… or should I say made the original tv series look worst. But this is included in those exceptions. Because not only did they retain the whole good side of the tv series but also made the movie itself not a sequel but a spin-off with it’s own solid story. There are some really good lines that can become quite memorable and inspirational. Moreover, there are some scenes that made you rethink of your life and the what ifs that comes with it. Nice touch.

PLOT/STORY:

The whole story is not a spin-off nor a sequel of the original series. It is an adaptation, however, and is a good one at that. It created it’s own arc. The director of the Atsushi Takahashi, also directed some episodes of the original anime. (Might be the reason why this movie retained the good parts of the anime too.) The stories develop somewhat like any other anime movies but with a deeper concept that will touch your heart at the end. It’s something that will make you rethink “what will you do if you are in that situation?”.

CHARACTERS:

If you have watched the original Ao No Exorcist or even read the manga, you will be quite familiar with the characters and their personalities. Rin Okumura the eldest of the Okumura brothers is quite stubborn but has a big big heart (he is my favorite here, so let me be bias once in a while). Yukio Okumura the younger brother is mr-goody-too-shoes and really sticking by the rules for all time, but is really soft-hearted when it comes to his nii-san. The other Exwires (a rank above page which is still noob and not yet an exorcist) are still the same bunch though with little role here. We got our central character, Usamaro, who is a time turner demon where the whole movie revolves. He seems lonely and only wanted happiness to those who are around him; however, his good intentions are forever getting twisted to an obsession which will then somehow turn something little to a disaster. But he is cute and got a big presence now and again.

ACTORS:

Excellent!

ENDING:

I like how they ended this movie. It is conclusive and quite… final. It might not be a happy ever after but it did convey what the whole point was about. Remember. And for that I will.

OVERALL:

Definitely close to a 5! And I would really watch it again! Mark my words!  (ノ ̄ー ̄)ノ
